How to Have Fun and Make the World a Better Place

I'm investigating the possibility of making my trip into a fundraising activity. The FAA has some pretty strict rules about what constitutes "Pilot for Hire." My intention is to cover all my expenses myself, but ask people to donate to a charity in support of the flight. I've always wondered about the rationale for these fundraising activities. I certainly won't be enduring any hardship on behalf of anyone. Still, if I can use the trip to generate some money for a worthy cause just through serendipity, I don't see how that's a bad thing.
